Hi

Took a few pic during the install of the TecGT in my car... im not finished yet with the install...

I already had the Tec2 in my car, so the trigger wheel, tps, map etc etc was already on the engine.. so it was "only" to wire the damn thing up...
I decided to soldier ALL wires... and it took some time... but i am very happy with the end result...

First thing i did was to sort out the wires in groups.... injectors, gpo etc etc...

Next thing was to group wires that is for the engine bay and wires inside the car....

Then i mounted the TecGT unit where i had the Tec2.. inside the dashboard centre console.... One thing i realized afterwords... if i need to see the warning light on the ecu it will be a problem... but i hope that wont be necessary....

Next thing was to get the DFU`s mounted in the engine bay... this is also the same location as i had them on my Tec2.... didnt want to make new spark plug wires... plus it looks nice here....

Now that i had all the hardware mounted in its position i could start feeding the wire harness through the firewall for mockup of the length of the wires....

First thing i started with was the injector wiring... im going to run full sequential... so 6wires from the TecGT.... And like the manual says the TecGT unit fires the injector drivers 1-2-3-4-5-6.... so the wiring has to be done in the firing order of the engine.... i just made some quick notes and wrote down the colour code for the wires that correspond with the firing order of my engine... double checked that everything was 100% correct... since i would cut the wires in proper lengths.....

And here the wires have been cut to proper lengths to each injector....

At the same time i also cut the right lengths to all the sensors.... map, tps, water, air, dfu`s....
I did also mark the wires where they come through the firewall.... so i knew where to start putting wires in the nylon protection thing (dont know the english name for it)

Everything is now finished in the engine bay... will take some more pic tomorrow... I have started to wire up the relays and other wires inside the car.. rpm... 4wd for the Atessa ECU.... since this unit has got so many gpo`s i will be wiring up shiftlight, log switch, check engine light etc etc....

Hope to get things finished tomorrow.. really want to start the car now... Very Happy

Cheers
Asim

Hi

Some more pic... the car is now up and running... started it last sunday... Very Happy

Finally had all the wiring for the engine done... every connector is soldiered and wire is in nylon protection.... and i used waterproof crimps....

Also with the TecGT i used the stock TPS... worked ok with Tec2.... and works fine with TecGT....

The only wiring for the engine that is visible is this... i am really satisfied with the end result... cant hardly see any wiring for the engine Smile

And after another few hours everything inside the car was wired up.... i didnt have the power harness so i had to make my own...

Now the fun begins.... so i thought.... Confused

I turned the key... and no reaction from the TecGT... no green light... bah!!
After checking the power wiring i found out there was a bad connection to one of the relay`s.... but i could not understand this.. i had soldiered ALL the wiring... there was NO WAY there could be a bad / loose connection... damn!
If i moved the wiring to both relay`s the would click in and out... i double checked all wire signals... everything ok.... so i though maybe there is something wrong with the relays....
Went out and bought a new set of relays... put them in... and god damn!! the same fault still there... by this time i had spent 2hours back and forth out an buying stuff.... so i was getting REALLY pissed off.. haha...
Took a 5min break... had some cold water to chill my head.... and started to figure out this problem....
I did find the problem... it was one of the fuse holder i had bought... there was a bad connection INSIDE the rubber part where the fuse is mounted... can you believe it???? replaced it and hey presto!! we got power... fuel pump started.... got communication with the TecGT.... Very Happy

Man... at that point i didnt care how late it was... i just wanted to fire the damn engine up....
Loaded the bin file that i made.... everything was looking fine..... started to crank the engine..... hmmmm... nothing.. not even a small "hey i want to start"....
I said to myself... go home.. get some sleep.. but no thanks.. i wanted to start the car....
Called Geir Haugen who supplied me the TecGT... after a short chat we agreed that i maybe had the wrong polarity on the crank sensor.... im using a BMW crank sensor... it has yellow and black wires... so i thought that the red wire from the TecGT would go to the yellow and black to black... but this was actually wrong....
Re-wired the crank sensor... and FINALLY!! Very Happy Engine started at once.... ohh joy.... good feeling....

But wait!!! problems not over yet my friend.... Confused

When the engine started.... it was running pretty rough... like it was only running on 4cylinders.... i thought it maybe to rich AF... started to adjust the IOT... got it to idle at around 13.8AF... but still the engine was only running on 4cylinders....

Stepped out of the car and listened to the engine... it was running only on 4cyliders.... i could not understand this.. plugs were fine when i removed the Tec2 from the car... sparkplugwires were also 100% good...
Started by listening with a stethoscope to the injectors.. and could hear all 6 click...
Pulled the plugg wires on each plug and no reaction from plugs on cylinder 2 and 5.... Called Geir up once again (sorry for all the late calls Geir) had another chat... and he could not understand or give me proper advice for this problem.... we agreed that i try a few things.... if it would not help i would continue next day...
I measured plugwires... checked plugs... everything ok.....

Coil B is the one that was not firing the plugs on cylinder 2 and 5.... i thought maybe a faulty coil? tried to swap coil A with Coil B.... but the same problem... leads to only one thing... something wrong with the signal from the TecGT to the DFU`s....
I decided to check if there was a broken wire from the TecGT to the DFU`s.... White wire pin 25 was ok.... black wire pin 1 was ok... 12v + was ok... no continuity on the red wire pin 24 to the DFU`s pin B.... God DAMN!! I thought maybe i had done something wrong with the wiring... i could not believe it... i was soooo careful all the way....

By this time i was so fed up... then just by coincidence the wires for DFU2 were right next to me... and i noticed it also has black and red wires... hmmmmm...!!!!! NO WAY.... it cant be that... but i just had to check it out.... measured continuity from Pin24 and out to the red wire for DFU2 (2coil dfu).... and there was continuity.....

Can you believe it????? the wiring harness for the TecGT had wrong wires in the wrong pins..... god damn! Pin 24 and Pin 2 had been mixed up.... in shock over this i pulled out the main connector.. removed the red locking plastic and rearranged the wires... tuned the key... and FINALLY!!! hahaha... success!! car ran soo nice.... every thing was FINALLY ok!!

By this time i just got the engine warm..... cleaned up my tools... and went home for some sleep.... i still cant believe that the wiring harness was like that...
I think this is a pretty serious error... don know if anyone else has been into this problem before.... i hope im not the only one haha... Very Happy

Anyway.... have been playing around with the car a few days now...and OH MY GOD!! The wintec4 is such a good software to work with....
Have already got the off-boost fuel map almost finished.... just started today to give it some boost... thing are lookin very good.....

Best thing with this software must be the Flight Recorder... man what a helpful tool Very Happy

Will be back with a update as soon as i get the fuelmap sorted....

Cheers

Asim

I had the same kind of prob when I wired in my Tec3r using full seq. There was wires that were the same color I mixed up when I wired in my injectors. If I remember correctly, I had two inj's wired up using the same color wires from one of the GOP's or something (can't remember exactly which I had mixed up).

Bottom line is I had the same senerio.... two dead cyl until I back tracked and found it, then.... WABAH, WABAH.... ran like a scalded cat.... Smile

Good to hear you got it sorted!

Thanks mate Very Happy

But did YOU pick the wrong wire?? or were you unlucky like me and had wiring harness that was not produced correctly from Electromotive Inc ??

If someone from EMI reads this... is this something you have heard of before??

But to be honest.... i must admit im a motorgeek... i actually enjoy troubleshooting like this... you simply cannot beat the feeling of satisfaction when the problem is solved Cool
That`s probably why im head technician / foreman at our workshop... im a VERY VERY persistent person you see... Razz

I still cannot explain how good the wintec4 software is... tuning is sooo much easier now... i have used haltech, autronic, pectel and lots other... but i think this one must be the easiest to work with....

Only one thing i miss.. that is the ability to retrieve the binfile / map FROM the ecu...

Thanks
Asim
