Hello , Hows everyone doing?

awesome forum , i hope it continues to grow!

new guy here , and I have a few questions.....

My plan is to turbo my 97 bmw M3 , and run the TEC3r. I removed the engine for the rebuild, and have been planning. I will start putting it all together shortly, hopefully sooner than later.

I decided to go with a M52 based engine , and picked up a plug n play tec3r unit for the standalone.

the car and engine were OBDII.... But this tec3r unit was supposedly setup for OBDI .

Well my question right now is , what am I gonna need to make these compatible .

What will need to be changed in this tec3r for it to work with my car ?

Or will it be better to run obd I parts on the engine , or will it need to be combo of both ....

Yes I am pretty clueless, and havent looked into this much yet , as I am still working on getting the motor sorted out

thanks for any help

I assume this is a Sias Tuning plug and play kit. If it is, the difference is in the wiring inside the old Motronic box. The TEC3r does not need to be modified, but the wiring will need to be. It may be worth contacting Sias Tuning and see what he would charge to reconfigure the wiring in the Motronic for OBD-II, as that would be the easiest thing to do.

Ok,

Yes I now see that the ecus and pnp connectors are different.

how different I dont know, might not be that bad ....
Can I do it myself ?? How much would Vic charge to rewire it for obd2?????

So I guess its either change the TEC harness to obd2 to work with the harness in the car or

change the harness and sensors to plug into the obd1 plug at the unit ....

I have seen what it takes to convert an engine to obd1 harness and its not too difficult , and it looks like a few of the conversion parts are needed to run tec3r better.

What is the preferred set up to run , on a bmw M52 engine, e36 m3 ????

I may be buying new sensors anyway, it looks like the crank wheel has to be removed and rotated, or an obd 1 model used and the trigger for it ....
Is this correct ??

Is either set up better , easier to run with the TEC3r???

what does it take to get a hold of Vic?

While I can be helpful with TEC specific questions, Vic is a better authority when it comes to the BMW specific questions. You can reach him through his website at www.siastuning.com

Yeah thanks man

I will be trying to get a hold of the master ....

The engine is already under the knife, and the engine harness and sensors might not be too much trouble ....
Converting isnt completely outta the question .
I read somewhere it may be like 400 for a new obd2 harness....

Well see what he thinks

Thanks uwe
