| Will we ever be able to pull the program off of the TecGT unit, instead of having to have it on the computer?

stanps,
If you check EMI's postings on this and other forums, the answer is no. This posting from the EFI101 Electomotive forums pretty much says it all
"Electromotive has never had a way for a field user to retrieve the bin file from the ECU. If you don't have the file, you will need to build another."
It's not that product can't do it, it's that EMI won't do it (ask Jon). Sorry for us.

Yea, I've seen that...I just don't understand why. Is it really that difficult, or are they trying to protect something? Jon? Care to comment?
It would be VERY handy. Just one of MANY examples: when one laptop dies while tuning, using another laptop requires you get the latest version of the file off the dead laptop. That can sometimes be hard to do out in the field when you don't have an outlet handy.
Plus, I just figured I'd be another voice for the request to add that feature.
Thanks again,
S

| Another EXCELLENT example is if/when you have a catastrophic computer failure and you completely lose your tune. Having to rebuild it from scratch is somewhat archaic, when there's a perfectly good version already in the computer.

| EMI can do it, that is not in question. They choose not to. From all responses I've read, EMI states security, but my contention (and others) is that it can be made secure by a number of ways, not the least being a encrypted password set by the user at time it is first installed. Maybe one day EMI will change their positon, although it does look doubtful after all these years.

If Security is the reason, that's ridiculous. Having three and four copies on all your friends computers [for disaster recovery] is MUCH less secure than being able to download the tune directly from the Tec.
Furthermore, if someone has that kind of access to your Tec [who shouldn't], then you've got bigger problems that some stranger having access to your tune.
My humble opinion of course.

Believe there are a lot more than just you two that want this feature badly. It is on my to do list but there are frankly more important things that need to get done first.
It's going to get done. When? When it's done.
As for the security question, we do have several dealers that prefer the setup as it is to protect their work. I realize the situation is far from perfect but we have a lot of different perspectives to take into account and compromise is never easy. _________________ Jon

Fair enough.

Good point, I didn't think about the professional tuners out there...my bad. I'm good with a password option!
Keep up the great work guys! Standing down...

One suggestion.
If you are worried about laptop failure or catastrophic failure store your files on a thumb drive. You can put the thumb drive on your key chain so it is always with the car.
Problem solved? Or am I missing something?

| Kinda similair question. My old TEC 1 [may god rest her sole] I could at least see the file name that was loaded into the TEC. This way If I forgot what file was last loaded it would let me know just bu firing up the engine monitor screen. Does WINTEC 4 do this and I'm missing it?

Yes. As soon as WinTEC4 detects the unit, the serial number, firmware version and BIN filename are shown in the System tab. _________________ Jon

Yea...that's one possible solution, however doing this might leave with multiple copies of your tune scattered across different places/devices.

I do understand this being a tuner.
