Hey all,

Something interesting i came across while setting up one of the cars i installed a Tec GT into --- engine would not start for some reason, cranks and cranks, but no spark....

After checking all the wiring, making sure the ignition sequence was correct (1,3,4,2) and that the crank sensor was working (red light on the Tec GT ECU flashes every alternate sequence) i was forced to look further. In the Wintec 4 software there is an initial advance setting which is set to 14 degrees, this setting is the advance that the ECU will provide the engine with under cranking as long as the engine is under 750rpm.

Changing this value made no difference at all even to extremes (changed from 14 to 40...) what helped was when i double clicked the RPM point and changed the 750RPM value to 200RPM as the cranking speed of the starter motor was 240+ rpm

Problem solved.....

Electromotive guys -- any ideas??

Hey TurboDirect! Where is this setting, of which you speak?

Its in WINTEC Version 4 -- under the advanced tab, ignition advance table, INITIAL ADVANCE ---

If you want to change the RPM cell - you simply double click the RPM cell you want to change and type in another RPM value

hope this helps.

So that made the difference between spark and no spark, or did it just make you get advance while cranking?

In general, you don't want the timing advanced while cranking - the TEC ignition advance goes to zero when below ~300rpm by default - that is the intended behavior.

The flame front propagates at about the same speed for a given mixture/pressure, so at very low rpm adding a lot of advance can make the peak pressure happen before tdc, and actually oppose the rotation of the engine. Doesn't necessarily make it easier to start, and is not good for your starter.
