| I have had many people call in using either Best Buy brand or Radio shack brand USB adapters that don't work very well. I refer them to some of the brands above and in every case so far that has fixed the problem.

We've had customers report that USB adapters that use an FTDI USB chip works well (even with TECIs and TECIIs). They can generall be found by searching for FTDI and run between $20 and $30.
There is rarely a particular brand associated with these adapters and are best found by looking for that chip name.
Here is a link to the FTDI company site where they sell completed adapters out of the UK. Others could be found out of the US.
